Local Measure Engage utilizes Amazon Pinpoint for SMS capabilities. As such, SMS numbers need to be claimed in Amazon Pinpoint before SMS routing will be in place.
[.callout-primary--info]Note that, due to regulatory requirements, claiming an SMS number can take up to 14 (in some cases 21) business days, so it is recommended to start this process early on during the project.[.callout-primary--info]
Clients in USA will have to:
- Register a 10DLC campaign
- Upon approval of the campaign, claim a 10DLC number
Clients elsewhere can claim numbers as per the availability in the Pinpoint Console. If the AWS console provides options for voice and SMS, select only SMS.
NOTE: The Pinpoint console only allows users to claim SMS numbers for specific countries. A case can however be opened with AWS to request SMS numbers for most countries. Please refer to the AWS documentation to validate if SMS numbers are supported for the country required.
The process of claiming SMS numbers are documented in this section (and sub-sections) of the Pinpoint admin guide.
Note that AWS - and their telco providers - apply stringent checks and will require information including, but not limited to, the below:
- Client opt-in (registration) and opt-out processes
- Proof of address
- SMS type (Transactional or Promotional)
- Use case detailing what the number will be used for
- Expected volumes
